L’ISOLA
A new initiative for the actors of
the Marche Civic Theatre Young Actors Company, a travelling show not just
because it is on tour but also because it takes its audience on actual tours of
theatres. It is the first stage in a drama season
where great
actors perform and which includes two popular musicals.
L’isola directed by Paola
Galassi, is an initiative that accompanies the audience along theatre tours,
diving into a fun and curious trip that plays with texts, actors in costume and
settings inside each theatre which the audience doesn't expect to see. In
conjunction with the Province of Ancona for the “Leggere il 900 teatrale” (A
theatrical reading of the Twentieth Century) Project, the Marche Civic Theatre,
appointed Civic Theatre by the Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and
consequently one of the 16 most important Drama theatres in Italy, produces
the show. A show which could be set to last, since it can be adapted to any
theatre setting interested in taking part. The tour will end mid November.
The initiative begins at the Le Muse Theatre in
Ancona from 12th September to 8th October. The trip
will be repeated twice a day, for an audience of up to 80 people (several
performances already have a full house, with a good 2,340 people having
purchased a season ticket to the entire Drama Season). The Province of Pesaro
Urbino, the Marche Region and the Cassa di Risparmio di Fabriano e Cupramontana
are also taking part.
It is a trip to the enchanting past which comes back to life thanks to
the Marche Civic Theatre Young Actors Company under the guidance of Paola
Galassi. The island the title refers to is the one in Shakespeare's The
Tempest - almost a tutelary deity of “every” theatre in the collective
imagination - and the shipwrecked audience is in fact rescued by Prospero and
his elves (who in the performances in Ancona will be interpreted by the young
pupils of the second year class of the Marche Civic Theatre Drama School),
who will lead the audience with dances and songs through the settings of this
long-dormant theatre. Prospero hands the theatre back to the audience, bidding
his listeners farewell with a last performance, almost to leave a legacy of
dreams of the enchanted oblivion, of fantastic memories close to the
spectators' hearts.
The show starts off with a sudden and gleaming tempest, the audience is
fully involved, heirs to this past from which they should learn a lesson, and
the story is told with the support of suitably timed live music played and
composed by Mario Mariani and dances, created and accomplished by
Barbara Schroer, with costumes by Stefania Cempini and lights by Paolo Manti.
In this suspension between the fantastic dimension, almost rarefied by the
re-evocation and the merry, noisy dimension of the “new life”, with obvious
hints at comedy: from the multicoloured rendition of a yet unheard Ariel
to the genuine verve of two people whom the audience will discover to their
surprise, and even the unlikely courting manners of Cyrano. The theatre has
therefore reawakened, the charm has been lifted, but like any deep sleep, it
leaves the audience with that dreamy air one can't quite put a finger on, which
is the very charm of all magical places.
The trip will be
guided by: Omero Affede, Anghela Alò, Christian Amadori, Andrea Bartola,
Fabrizio Bartolucci, Valentina Bonafoni, Andrea Caimmi, Claudia Ceccarini,
Sandro Fabiani, Rosetta Martellini, Pietro Micci, Luigi Moretti, Laura Nardozi,
Massimo Pagnoni and musicians: Niccolò Bolognese, Cristina Flenghi,
Giovanni Scaramuzzino The Elves will be played by the second-year
pupils of the Marche Civic Theatre Drama School.
